“If a king judges the poor with fairness, his throne will be established forever.”
The broader truth Solomon is driving home in this passage is that when you do the right thing, it has a lasting, positive impact. The converse is also true: when you do the wrong thing, it has a lasting, negative impact. As a matter of fact, Scripture is very clear that the sins of the father are passed down to the third and fourth generations. But the upside is that the blessings are passed on for a thousand generations. Solomon is also very clear to point out that how we treat the most vulnerable in our society is very important to God. Jesus made that point as well, even to the extent of saying that when we treat them with love and compassion, we are doing the same to Him. That’s hard to imagine, but when we grasp it it can be transformative in how we give and live. When we recognize how our interactions with the least fortunate in our world impact our Savior, and we approach those interactions with our eyes fixed on Him, something inside us is affirmed by His Spirit. Our actions show whom we belong to. We begin to see these people through the eyes of our Lord. Today, consider the impact of your behavior. #BeTheEdge #LoveJesusBeKind
