“Evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.”
Maybe you’ve felt this way. There were times when I found myself explaining to someone why something was a bad idea. It was usually a teenager in our ministry having a “hold my beer” moment. The look of confusion or bewilderment on their face would, in turn, bewilder me. I could not fully comprehend why they couldn’t understand why what they had either done or were about to do was a bad idea. Some of this can be explained by the fact that their teenage brains are not yet fully developed. Occasionally, these days, I find myself in a conversation, perhaps during a counseling appointment, with an adult, and I receive the same type of response. They truly appear to be drawing a blank as I explain why God has set a boundary or called us away from certain behaviors. They just don’t get it. This occurs mostly when the person is not a follower of Christ. I’ve almost always seen the clear common sense in living God’s way, but that is not a universal belief. To His people, His way ultimately makes sense. Love instead of hate. Kindness instead of evil. Truth instead of lies. These things should not be bewildering. In this political season, however, things can get confusing. I get discouraged by Christ followers who seem to feel it’s necessary to bend the truth to get elected. Perhaps they do. As God seekers, we have no excuse for not living by His clear truth and instructions. Today, show it. #BeTheEdge
