“Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?”
Recently, a friend was complaining about a person we both know. Over the years, I have watched these two in their relationship and seen it go up and down. Their companies operate in the same field. The down times generally occurred when one of them won a large bid that the other was also competing for. However, at times, he gets a bit negative about the other guy when his company gets a bid he wasn’t even competing for. He gets jealous. When I asked him about that, he admitted it was a very difficult issue for him and that he just couldn’t help himself. Jealousy is a powerful emotion, whether you are a junior high girl or the owner of a multimillion-dollar company. Satan loves to come at us through that weakness. I have two other friends who lead companies that work in the same industry. They often celebrate when the other’s company receives work that they had also hoped to get. They are both very successful, and I’ve often wondered if that isn’t part of the reason God blesses them. The thing that sets anger and fury apart from jealousy is that jealousy often simmers and lasts for years, even decades. Anger and fury are awful, yet even as destructive as they are, they tend to happen and then pass. Today, let the fruit of the Spirit control your emotions. #BeTheEdge
