“A person’s own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against the LORD.”

Over many years of working with teenagers, it amazes me how easily they could blame anything they didn’t like or even failed at on their parents. I remember once, in the same week, listening to a young man blame all his problems on the fact that his parents didn’t make enough money. A few days later, while counseling another teen, he blamed every ill in his world on the fact that his parents’ wealth made it difficult for him to calculate his choices and make wise ones. All I was lacking that week was a child from a middle-income family explaining how being in that situation messed up their life. There is no shortage of excuses for bad circumstances or bad choices. However, blaming God seems like a bit of a stretch. Yet I see God taking the blame for what people believe they deserve but don’t have. I recently read an article in which a Hollywood personality said he had given up on God because his home burned in the LA fires, among other difficult life experiences. He says God can’t be trusted. Thankfully, God is so much bigger than our selfishness. Scripture tells us His ways are so much higher than ours and His plans are perfect. Today, find rest in allowing Him to be God. #BeTheEdge
