“(She is unruly and defiant, her feet never stay at home;”

October 7, 2026Proverbs 7:11

This person sounds a little bit like John Travolta in Grease or the Fonz in Happy Days. Almost engaging. At least to those of us who remember those characters. There were a lot of guys, and even some girls, like that back in the ’70s when I was a teenager. Sadly, that is not what Solomon is talking about here. The words for unruly and defiant are darker than that. It is like a caged animal set free, looking for places to cause destruction and wreak havoc. Solomon says this person dresses like a prostitute in this particular chapter. We could read this verse and dismiss it as not relevant to us because we don’t live or travel in the world of prostitutes. The sad reality is that these people are all around us in our everyday lives. I hear almost daily about a marriage in trouble because one of the partners has strayed into an adulterous relationship with someone Solomon is describing in this verse. Or the partner may be that person who has their sights set on a simple-minded, unguarded person. Solomon’s counsel is to be aware and to set up safeguards. Primarily he tells us to get all of God’s teaching buried in our lives. Also having people in our lives who ask questions, pay attention, and walk closely with us are critical to helping us avoid the pitfalls of these destructive creatures looking to tear down God’s children and others. Today, walk faithfully and be aware. #BeTheEdge
