“One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.”
One of these people makes me tired just to watch. Seeing someone work hard to pretend to have a wealthy lifestyle while juggling debt is stressful for me to watch. It has to be even more stressful to live that way. Certain careers tend to lend themselves to this challenge. Not to oversimplify or point out particular professions, but over the years, I’ve just heard too many stories from people in these professions who have lived that way and found it to be a treadmill they cannot maintain until it eventually burns them out. On the other side, Solomon tells us about the one who has great wealth but lives as though they don’t. They live humbly. This may be financial wealth, but more often than not, it’s spiritual wealth—a life of wisdom, peace, and joy. It is a wealth that really matters. Those people are not stressful at all to watch. Actually, they are very calming and even enjoyable to see in action. It is truly a life empowered by God through His Holy Spirit. Having people like that sprinkled throughout our community helps all of us live better and with more peace. Today, choose the better way. #BeTheEdge
