“Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.”

I love the challenge Solomon gives us to guard his teachings. In thinking through how we do that, he immediately tells us a few ways in the next couple of verses: bind them to yourself. “Bind” is a strong description of connecting in a powerful and solid way with God’s truth. This picture has God’s truth ialways where we can see it and always close by. “Apple of your eye” in Hebrew was referring to the pupil and meant that thing that was very dear and precious to you. Therefore, God’s instruction to cling to His truth is not a burden. It is a constant source of joy and peace. Who couldn’t use more of that these days? Everything from God to us is good. That is how we know He words of challenge are to encourage and grow us. Today, cherish His truth and hold it tight. #BeTheEdge
