At lunch today, I heard about a businessperson who skipped town with debts owed to a number of people. They used their ability to get close to people who were considered important to lure others into their dishonest tricks. Thankfully, unlike some situations I hear about, this person was not a Christian nor ever attempted to pretend to be one. The people they left holding the bag didn’t pursue them but considered it a hard-learned lesson. We have probably dealt with a few of these kinds of people in our journey. If you’re over 50, I’m certain of it. Their trick was to get close to influential people and then use them as a reference. Politics is full of those people. Business is as well. For decades, my ministry has brought in national and local leaders and influencers to speak at numerous events. I have people who are looking to get close to them. I recently asked one of them if it was okay for me to give their cell number to a very fine leader who had asked for it. They gave me permission but added how grateful they were that I checked first. I don’t fault anyone for desiring to interact with certain personalities. I have enjoyed many of the people I’ve been able to spend time with. As with everything else, it’s the motives that matter. That is what Solomon is speaking to. Today, bless, admire, and pray for those God has given a large platform. #BeTheEdge
