“My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart.”

This could come back to haunt me, but too many times lately I’ve looked at someone and tried really hard to remember their name. Sorry! Now, rather than test me, just say your name when you see me, and I’ll say, “I know.” The point is that my memory, on a good day, is fleeting. This condition began when I was about 20. I think it’s simply a matter of being so ADD that I seldom focus long enough to remember much of anything. In all seriousness, Bible memorization has always been a challenge for me and continues to be. As Solomon instructs his son to remember his teachings and keep them in his heart, God does the same with us. To the degree that we remember and live by God’s Word, we find both success and opportunity as followers of Christ. We talked yesterday about success and what it means in God’s kingdom, but we also gain opportunity by understanding all that God offers His children. I heard a message yesterday that challenged me not to believe in myself and all I could do or all I could be. That may be a great slogan for the Army, but as followers of Christ, we believe in so much more than ourselves. We believe in a God who is powerful, sovereign, and able to do anything. Not only can He do anything on His own, but He can also do anything He chooses through the lives of His children. Now that’s a promise and an opportunity that should get us all excited. As we walk in God’s will, we have the opportunity to watch Him work in bigger and bolder ways than we could ever accomplish on our own. Today, remember His commands and live by them. #BeTheEdge
