“From the fruit of their lips people enjoy good things, but the unfaithful have an appetite for violence.”

Lost people typically have an insatiable appetite for sin. Sometimes they pursue particular sins with an appetite that drives them deeper and deeper into darkness. Those trapped in sexual sin, alcoholism, or even the pursuit of money and power will often speak of an appetite they are striving to satisfy but never quite can. They are never satisfied. It is that appetite that is so dangerous and threatens to destroy the person trying to fill it. Not long before coming to Christ, I experienced a hunger that I thought could be satisfied through food. I was known to eat several Burger King Whoppers and Krispy Kreme doughnuts in an attempt to fill the hunger I was feeling. I had no idea that what I was experiencing was actually a hunger for God—what Blaise Pascal referred to as the “God-shaped vacuum” that lives within all of us, longing to be filled by Him. We try filling that emptiness with an awful lot of things, but it acts like a trampoline. It gives and gives, then throws it back, leaving us even more unsatisfied than when we started. When we discover Christ and invite Him into our lives, He fills that hunger and brings true satisfaction. It has been said that too much of anything can kill you. The things that may seem good to those who are lost will still never meet the deepest need they feel. Today, allow God’s Spirit to fill that place that can only be filled by Him. #BeTheEdge
