Solomon is admonishing his son—and all of us—not to forget where we came from or the instruction we have been given. To remember our roots in God. In the noise of today’s world, it is easy to forget what we were taught in Sunday school, from the pulpit, and, hopefully, by our parents and grandparents about the King of the universe, regardless of where we live or who our government leaders are. Today is an especially good day to be reminded of that by one of our nation’s greatest heroes. George Washington once said: “Whereas it becomes us humbly to approach the throne of Almighty God, with gratitude and praise for the wonders which His goodness has wrought in conducting our forefathers to this western world… and above all, that He hath diffused the glorious light of the Gospel, whereby, through the merits of our gracious Redeemer, we may become the heirs of His eternal glory.” — George Washington, General Orders, November 27 As our nation celebrates the sacrifices of so many who helped establish our country, we should also celebrate and recognize the sovereign hand of our Heavenly Father throughout our journey.
