“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.”‭‭

At its simplest, Solomon warns us in this verse that the future is both unpredictable and not guaranteed. Humility dictates that we leave much of our outcomes in God’s hands. I was part of a group that made a documentary. We had an amazing and highly successful distributor. The project was beautiful and had won numerous awards, and we were all set for a solid limited release on a certain weekend. As we prepared to watch our project climb toward success—perhaps moderate success, but success nonetheless—for the first time ever, every theater in the country shut down that weekend because of COVID. Who could have predicted that? I might have been a little guilty of predicting how I thought it would go. By then, I should have learned that God holds the future. Careful and wise planning is definitely encouraged throughout Scripture, but the ultimate results are not up to us. The longer we live, the more examples we have of just how true that is. Thankfully, most of the time we can look back and see why God did what He did instead of what we thought He should do. Even when we don’t understand, as His followers we can remain confident that He is always right and has never, in all of history, made a misstep. Today, plan carefully and place the outcomes in the hands of the Almighty. #BeTheEdge
