“Desire without knowledge is not good—how much more will hasty feet miss the way!”

My friend Jay told me the other day that he knew why he never won the lottery. That made me curious, since the odds of winning the lottery are pretty much one step short of impossible anyway. He went on to explain that he believed he never won because God knew wealth would ruin him. It would take his eye off the ball of his calling in Christ. It made me wonder about myself. Besides not buying a lottery ticket, I’m not sure this isn’t one of the reasons I’m not likely to win it either. I know plenty of people with lots of money who manage their lives, walk with Christ, and use their influence for the Kingdom beautifully. I’m just not certain I would be one of those people. I’m afraid that with lots of money, I would tend to withdraw a bit from the world and focus much of my time and energy on my family and their wants and needs. That’s right—their wants. I’m not sure that would be healthy for me, and it might not be particularly healthy for them either. Although, I do believe they wouldn’t mind giving it a try. In all seriousness, one of the best answers God gives us in prayer is either “no” or “not right now.” He knows us better than we know ourselves. That makes sense since He made us—not only physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. God is the keeper of all knowledge. He knows what is healthy for our story and what isn’t. At some point, we need to simply trust and rest in that truth. Today, rest in the certain knowledge that God is firmly in control of your story. #BeTheEdge
