“In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.”
This is the last verse in this chapter, and what a great verse it is. I like the thought that if our lives were to close with this verse, what a gift that would be to a world that is searching for so many things. Yet the two things offered in this verse are what people truly desire: life and immortality in Christ. The word immortality has been used in movies and television programs, from Highlander to X-Men as well as other stories where characters live forever. In those shows, immortality sometimes brings advantages, but it also comes with significant drawbacks. There are no such negatives when it comes to being in Christ. When the Holy Spirit rescues us and takes up residence in our spirit, He breathes life into us. From that instant, we become eternal beings. We will live forever with God in heaven. Sadly, those whose spirits remain dead will also exist forever, separated from Him. The original word for life means more than mere existence. It refers to a prosperous, flourishing quality of life. It goes far beyond the simple idea of material prosperity. It paints a picture of a life overflowing with blessing, purpose, and joy in every conceivable area, both here and for all eternity. The word used for life also carries the implication of life on earth and life beyond this world. This is truly an exciting and empowering passage. Today, live life in Christ to its fullest. #BeTheEdge
