“Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.”
Because of the constant external temptations we face, Solomon encourages us to make sure we have the wisdom of God securely planted in our hearts and minds so we can stand against them. I have known people who used various things to help them remember projects they needed to take care of. Sometimes it was a rubber band around their wrist or a note taped somewhere they would see it. I used to have sticky notes on my bathroom mirror to remind me of things I needed to do. Most of the time, I forgot them anyway. Keeping God’s Word in our minds and hearts is, in many ways, easier today than it has ever been before. In a conversation with a friend not long ago, we were discussing the importance of regularly being in Scripture. I mentioned how we used to encourage teenagers in our ministry to increase the number of times each week they read God’s Word. His response was, “There’s really no excuse not to be in it every day now.” He pointed out that there are great Bible apps available on the devices we carry in our hands or pockets for most of our waking hours. He was exactly right. It is easier now to pull up God’s Word and read a lot or a little whenever we have a spare moment. It’s also easy to set a reminder on your calendar each day that goes off at a convenient time to spend time in God’s Word and in prayer. You can even tie a string around your finger if that helps. It might actually create some great conversations. Today, identify a resource or reminder that helps you spend time in God’s Word. #BeTheEdge
