“That you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.”

June 5, 2026Proverbs 5:2

I was recently in a business meeting with well-intentioned fellow believers. Much to my disappointment, I did not operate according to the truth of this proverb. It was not who I wanted to be. It was not who I prayed to be. It was not who God has called me to be. I actually found myself pondering what I was doing leading a ministry that helps business leaders build Kingdom companies. It was a humbling experience. The gist of this verse is learning from God’s wisdom and insight so that we operate with discretion. In this passage, Solomon is specifically addressing the issue of adultery. It would be safe and easy to say, “I’m not battling adultery,” and move right past this verse. However, the lesson is broader for all of us. Wherever we serve and lead, discretion is a vital part of both communication and thinking. It can build or destroy. Using discretion is a powerful gift. The old saying about keeping your mouth closed and being thought wise rather than opening it and removing all doubt is often true. I’ve proven that far too many times in my own life. Operating with discretion is a tool in our spiritual arsenal, but it is also a gift to the world around us. Today, preserve knowledge. Choose your words carefully. Listen well. Speak with wisdom. #BeTheEdge
