“The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.”
I had a conversation today with a friend who had been treated very unfairly by someone else in business. As I listened to the story, it occurred to me—knowing the people on both sides—that the one doing the wrong has been operating this way for many years, going back decades. They have consistently attempted to become successful while taking advantage of others to make it happen. What makes it even more troubling is that they have often done this while declaring their faith as an integral part of who they are and how they do business. Yet they have not truly been successful. Now, as they get older, they find themselves working even harder to get money, no matter who it takes. Still, they continue to claim that God’s hand is on them and their business. The reality is that word has spread. People no longer take them seriously. Most disappointing of all, many no longer take their faith seriously either—including those who desperately need to see Jesus. The person being wronged in this situation is known for having an excellent reputation in both the business and Christian communities. They continue to handle the abuse by turning it over to the Lord. Scripture reminds us that we reap what we sow. That principle applies both for good and for bad. As this proverb teaches, wisdom ultimately leads to honor, while foolishness leads to shame. Today, treat others with biblical wisdom. #BeTheEdge
