“for riches do not endure forever, and a crown is not secure for all generations.” Proverbs 27:24
Not surprisingly, Solomon reminds us that wealth and power do not provide the security that is sometimes expected. In this chapter, and throughout both Proverbs and the rest of God’s Word, we see that “active resource management, hard work, and investing in enduring values” bring far greater security. Ultimately, riches and power guarantee nothing. After reading a few crime-related articles, it can be argued that wealth and power can set you up to be the victim of a variety of crimes that the poor and middle class avoid. Kidnapping for ransom is uniquely more of a threat to the wealthy, especially in third-world countries. With elections and power transfers every two to four years, we are less subject to forced government power transfers than societies ruled by dictators or kings. In reality, no one is truly safe except those whom God protects. A friend who was the principal of a gang- and violence-infested high school once said he was not fearful of being hurt or killed in spite of many threats. He said nothing can hurt him unless God allows it. He wasn’t fearful. Today, be diligent and hardworking, and let God provide your safety. #BeTheEdge
