“The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.”
A friend of mine who was a pastor for many years used to say, “God’s will done God’s way won’t lack God’s blessing.” I believe that 100%. I think Scripture teaches that clearly. Here’s the interesting caveat, as Solomon puts it in this verse: God’s plans, when they become ours, are still often dependent on godly counsel. Over the years, I’ve learned this the hard way on occasion. There have been a few things that I was very confident God was leading me or the ministries I was involved in to pursue in a certain direction. I learned early on to trust in Solomon’s counsel that there is wisdom in a multitude of godly counselors. This verse reiterates that just because the plan is good, unless the counsel is also righteous and godly, those plans can still be upended. For a boss in business, understanding who is on their team is vital. Knowing who brings wisdom professionally and spiritually — and who doesn’t — can be just as important to the success of the plan as the validity of the idea itself. Solomon often speaks of the king surrounding himself with wise counselors. In business, ministry, parenting, and all areas of life, it is critical that we know what God’s plan or will is for us, but also understand how vital it is to receive godly counsel and input in order to achieve it. Today, seek wise counsel. #BeTheEdge
