“Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed.”

Solomon says a lot in this verse. Many theologians consider it a foreshadowing of Jesus and the Last Supper as well. Solomon is offering a pleasant time with good food and drink for us to come and join around God’s table. “The “mixed wine” signifies a carefully prepared offering, combining quality and thoughtfulness to delight the invitee”. (AIResource) This passage also stands in direct contrast to Folly, who later in this chapter offers stolen, secret food. Wisdom offers bright, positive, upbeat, joyful fellowship and interaction with God. Folly’s offer is dark and dangerous. The world continually offers us both options as well. As I’ve aged, my eyesight has aged with me. I avoid driving at night because I simply don’t see as well in the dark. There’s nothing I enjoy more than a bright, beautiful sunny day. In my life, that is a very clear example of the contrast between what God and Satan offer. Yesterday I spoke at a baccalaureate service and heard the host contrast what it means for these graduates to go into the world and be light in the darkness. God has clearly called us to be light in the darkness, and therefore He must expect us to spend time in the dark. That’s not hard today. It is hard to deny that the world has grown darker as time has gone by. As Steve Brown says, the darker the darkness, the less light it takes to overcome it. Today, dine with Wisdom and then go reflect His light. #BeTheEdge
