“There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him:”

Since we serve a God whose second greatest commandment is about loving others, it makes sense that the six and seven things He hates and detests in this text would heavily tilt toward those things we do to harm or wound others. It also makes sense that, as a Father who longs to see His children love and care for each other, He would dislike anything that comes between them. This verse reflects the heart of a Father. In the Bible, the word father symbolically refers to God as the Creator, Provider, and the intimate “Abba,” which translates best as “Daddy.” I try not to hate, but I do hate the things that hurt my children—and now my grandchildren—especially evil. As with our Heavenly Father, I don’t hate people, even those who are mean to them, but I do hate the evil that Satan works to do. To know what angers God, look at the list. To know what hurts His children, look at the list. Solomon has made an impressive list of what God hates. We, in turn, should hate the same things—not in a way that turns us against people, but in a way that compels us to protect His people, His children. Today, love God’s people and hate the evil of sin. #BeTheEdge
