“As the heavens are high and the earth is deep, so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.”
As I was reading this Proverb, my 7-year-old grandson overheard me. He stopped me at this verse and said, “That’s kind of interesting.” When I asked him why, he said it made him think of pyramids. As I began to move along—since that didn’t seem to connect at all—he continued, saying they both seem really mysterious and seem to contain an adventure. Well, that stopped me and made me rethink this verse in my own life. I love the imagination of innocent children. About 30 minutes ago, I was meeting with our college ministry leadership team and had introduced him to them. Part of that introduction included mentioning that he was an avid golfer. A little later, I received a text from him. It was a poster for Pebble Beach, and he typed under it, “I’m in—who’s with me?” The kid has no limits on his dreams. As followers of Christ, neither should we. This verse immediately follows the one reminding us that it is to God’s glory to hide things that even kings must search out. A joy of life can be found in constantly searching for the things of God—in the depths of the hearts of His leaders as well as throughout His creation. It is an adventure. It may frustrate us at times, as we often want quick answers. However, quick answers are often cheap ones. The process—the journey—is the adventure and often reveals so much more than just the conclusion. Today, dream big, find joy in the journey, and never quit searching. #BeTheEdge
