“My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad indeed;”
I had lunch the other day with a young business leader. After visiting with him, I was impressed by his wisdom and insight for a person his age. Solomon speaks about how our hearts are made glad by our interactions with people like this. Mine certainly was, but even more, I found myself trying to figure out how to hire him. It is kind of rare these days to find people of a certain age who fit this description. And I will be one of the first to admit that “a certain age” can be 70 or 80 years old as well. This kind of wisdom is the byproduct of godly training as a young person or godly leadership as we grow. It can also be the result of someone who just dwells in God’s Word. I saw a picture the other day of an eight-year-old boy who discovered a family Bible and now takes it with him everywhere he goes. He reads it and carries it to school. He reads it and keeps it with him around the house. He even sleeps with it. If that continues, he will more likely than not be one of those Solomon speaks of in this verse. Solomon is talking about his son being wise and bringing him joy. Many of us fill a spiritual leadership role not unlike what a godly parent brings to the life of someone younger. As we watch them grow in the faith, it makes our hearts glad. If you’re in leadership in the workplace or in the community, you have the opportunity to speak God’s truth and model it on a regular basis. Today, let God’s wisdom make others glad through you, and look for opportunities to invest it in the lives of others. #BeTheEdge
