“It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel.” ‭

It’s painful to recognize that when I was younger, I thought someone who walked away from a fight—or more specifically, from arguing and taking a stand for what they believed was right—was weak. I don’t mean taking a stand for Christ or standing to protect those they love, but rather the simple arguments people have over social and political issues. I was very foolish. Both Solomon and Jesus, as well as many other Scripture writers, make that very clear. As a matter of fact, there is nowhere in Scripture that elevates those who engage in foolish arguments and quarrels. Solomon calls that person a fool. Scripture is full of praise for peacemakers. Jesus was the ultimate peacemaker, as He brought peace between His Father and His creation after we had shaken our fists in His face and walked away from Him. He holds that peace in place every day, even when we choose to sin. He did it with outstretched arms and nail-pierced hands. Now when I see someone quietly and gently walk away from an unnecessary fight or argument, I am blessed and encouraged by the strength—not weakness—they are showing. I desire to be more like them, and in that desire, I will become more like Jesus. Today, pursue peace like our Savior did—and continues to do. #BeTheEdge
