“The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning.”

Knowledge comes easily. Those three words just don’t seem to resonate. It often feels like the hard knocks of life are what give us knowledge. However, if Scripture is true—and we know it is—then there is a way for knowledge to come more easily. Solomon tells us in this verse that it comes to the discerning. The word mocker in this verse refers to those who are cynical and scoff at God’s wisdom. They believe they know better. To be discerning is the result of a keen sense of observation and intentional listening—in other words, focusing and learning. Ultimately, it is empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit. Discernment is a gift, and a very valuable one at that. Not necessarily valuable in dollars and cents, but valuable in living life well and to the fullest. Solomon makes the point that the mocker is actually seeking wisdom but comes up empty because they are not discerning. Everyone wants wisdom, but without the ability to sort through the many sources of information constantly flooding our lives, we won’t find it. Today, be discerning, with the Spirit of God leading the way. #BeTheEdge
