“Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.”
An important part of what I do in ministry is finding men and women to speak in the variety of ministry settings that we have. Over the next two weeks, I will have someone speaking to over 350 business leaders at our annual breakfast, 150 business people at our monthly lunch, dozens of business leaders on our weekly challenge call, college students in the ministry at the College of Business, and multiple other settings. I never put someone in front of a group that I have not heard myself and been able to observe whether they are living what they say. The search for these people has been a joy, as I’ve gotten to know and hear from men and women of God who fulfill what Solomon is talking about in this verse. They’re not just a gift to The Edge ministry—they’re a gift to the Kingdom. The burden of these morning devotions is to reflect God’s truth clearly and effectively as well—not only to look for those who speak truth with integrity, but to do it ourselves. One of the things I quietly tolerate, but do not appreciate, is when someone says, “to tell the truth,” “the truth be told,” or “to be honest,” or any of dozens of similar phrases to preface a statement they’re about to make. It should be redundant for a follower of Christ to use any of those phrases. When we speak, it should always be truthful, honest, and reflective of the God we serve. Period. Today, speak truth with love. #BeTheEdge
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.” Ephesians 4:15 NIV
