“The Lord works out everything to its proper end— even the wicked for a day of disaster.”
I have met with a surprising number of business leaders over the past couple of years who are wrestling with the idea of retirement. Actually, most of them won’t say it and don’t even consider the concept. What they are really trying to figure out is what a meaningful transition looks like from their current work life to a still-active life of impact, utilizing their God-given skills and passions. That has turned out to be a real struggle for many. I enjoy pursuing the answers in this process with them. There are two main reasons I can enjoy it. One is that I’m confident that Scripture clearly teaches that God has every stage of our journey planned out, and as we search for what the next step is, He stands ready to reveal it to us. Second, it has always been easier to help others with the journey than it was to navigate my own. At my age and stage of life, I’m aware that my next stage is moving toward me. Early in life, the transitions were both exciting and a bit frightening. Now I’m pretty excited to see what the next one looks like. I feel that way because God has been perfectly faithful in every transition up to this point. I can now see where God worked everything out to its proper end in my previous transitions. Maybe not for others who were not looking to Him for His will at the time, but certainly for me and my family. Today, allow Him to lead as you walk faithfully into whatever is next. #BeTheEdge
