“Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.”
I recently heard a financial planner say that if you put $1,000 in the market when your child was born, on average the account would be worth just over $300,000 when they turn 60. I wish someone would have done that for me. In the same way, $10 a week for 60 years will be approximately $485,000. Those kinds of equations can go on forever. The point is that, in a very literal sense, Solomon’s counsel in this verse is a powerful truth. Here is an interesting lifestyle comparison: “Research indicates that while grand gestures are appreciated, the vast majority of us prefer steady, consistent acts of kindness to build long-term intimacy, trust, and emotional safety. Studies suggest that small, everyday gestures—such as running errands, helping with chores, or offering a thoughtful act—are more effective at creating a lasting, loving relationship than rare, dramatic displays.” Living out our faith consistently is also more impactful in our hurting, broken world than occasionally showing up with a grand act of spiritual showmanship. Today let’s do steady acts of kindness as Jesus’ servants. #BeTheEdge
