“No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.”
Jesus gave us a powerfully clear visual for this truth in John chapter 15. It is about the power and safety of being connected to Him. As the fruit-producing branches of the vine, we are safe. If we are not connected to Him, we will not only be cut off, but we will also find ourselves cast aside and destroyed. Thankfully, as His children we cannot be cut off. We stay connected or planted by His power and choice at that point, not ours. In this verse, Solomon reaffirms that no matter how different it may look to us day in and day out, the wicked—those who are driven by evil and selfish motives—will be like that house built on the sand. They may look very nice as they rise up and become established, but when the storm comes, they will be unable to ride it out. By contrast, those who are connected to and covered by Jesus’ righteousness will endure the storm and be in a position to thrive afterward. We serve at God’s pleasure. Discovering His call and will for our lives is vital, but when we do, we will be able to watch Him work through our efforts to build a legacy. The word from Solomon and from Jesus is not that we might not be uprooted or cut off, but that we cannot be uprooted or cut off when we walk in the protection of our King. Today, hang on to the One who hangs on to you. #BeTheEdge
