“Hopes placed in mortals die with them; all the promise of their power comes to nothing.”
Christians will say they have their faith in God. Too often it is just something they say while their actions reveal something very different. The person we go to, want to talk to, or reach out to when things are hard or when we have needs is often who we truly have our faith in. Prayer shows where our heart and our hope really are. A lot of humans will ask us to put our hope in them, but ultimately they cannot fulfill the hopes deep within us. Those hopes are placed by God in anticipation of us turning to Him and looking to Him to be the source of the supernatural and the eternal needs in our lives. Leonard Ravenhill paints the picture this way: “No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. We have many organizers, but few agonizers; many players and payers, few pray-ers; many singers, few clingers; lots of pastors, few wrestlers; many fears, few tears; much fashion, little passion; many interferers, few intercessors; many writers, but few fighters. Failing here, we fail everywhere.” Our prayer life reflects where we turn in times of need and where we place our hope. It’s either in ourselves, other humans, or our Creator God. Today, put your hope in God alone. #BeTheEdge
