“and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,”
The other evening, my eight-year-old granddaughter was hanging out with me. I was doing some work, and she overheard me ask Google a question. She immediately said, “Google is a liar, and I don’t like it.” I said, “Really? Why is that?” She then told me that her seven-year-old brother had asked Google around Christmastime if Santa was real, and Google said no. She said that made her mad, and she knew Google was a liar. Apparently, they had not revealed this moment of Google’s “deception” to their parents. Occasionally, I have used Google to search for things related to passages of Scripture and, on occasion, have discovered Google was wrong. In this Proverb, Solomon is telling his son to diligently pursue truth — especially in the form of insight and understanding. This verse is not talking about flipping through or taking a quick glance at a resource to search out God’s truth and wisdom. This is talking about a treasure hunt — digging deep and searching diligently as for hidden treasure. Over the years, I’ve done different types of treasure hunts with my grandkids. One of our favorites was called geocaching. We would search out points on a map using geolocation on our devices to track down treasures hidden by others. Maybe trinkets, maybe a note leading to the next one — but finding something was fun for them. Imagine their excitement if what we discovered was genuine treasure such as silver or gold. That is what God offers. He doesn’t offer light insights or fun fortunes in a cookie. He offers eternal truth that will not only affect how we live our lives but will transform us from the inside out. Today, diligently search out the treasure God has for you. #BeTheEdge
