“A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.”

Of course, most people think their ways and decisions are right—at least for them. That doesn’t mean they believe they are all godly. For those of us who are followers of Jesus, we cannot be satisfied with simply thinking we are right. We must have confidence that we are living correctly according to God’s call on our lives. The word “weighs” in this verse means that God evaluates, examines, and judges the true motives, intentions, and inner character of a person, rather than just their outward actions. It implies a divine scrutiny that penetrates self-deception and human justification. (AI Resource) There was a time in my life when the intense scrutiny of the Holy Spirit in my motivations and decisions felt intrusive. It would sometimes get in the way of what I wanted—or thought I wanted. Over time, through many failures, I discovered what I should have known all along: God always knows best. Even when His plan did not seem to make sense to me, He was right. His omniscience was, obviously, far beyond anything I brought into any decision-making situation. Realizing that God checks my heart in all my decisions is no longer threatening. It brings comfort because I understand that His desires for me are good, while mine are often driven by comfort at best—and are sometimes simply ungodly and self-serving at worst. Knowing that God discerns our hearts is a gift. Today, let Him reveal your hidden places. #BeTheEdge
