“A king’s wrath strikes terror like the roar of a lion; those who anger him forfeit their lives.”
I asked my 7-year-old grandson to read today’s chapter from Proverbs and pick a verse that he liked. He chose this one. When I asked him why, he said it’s because it reminds him of Daniel in the lions’ den. Anyone who even came close to that lions’ den most likely experienced a terrifying sense of danger. Imagining they would somehow find themselves crossways with the king—to the point of being tossed in there—would certainly steal some sleep. It was interesting that my grandson liked the image of the ferocious, roaring lion but felt no fear. First, because there was not a lion in the coffee shop with us, and second, because he is aware that we stand securely in God’s protection. As His followers, we are not in danger of an irrational punishment imposed at His whim. In Daniel’s story, the king was tricked into having him tossed into the lions’ den. Our Heavenly Father will never be tricked, and we will never unjustly pay the consequences. Those who turn their backs on God’s offer of protection and eternity in Him should certainly fear more than just a trip to the lions’ den. Today, let the safety of God give you peace. #BeTheEdge
