“The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.”

I’ve shared before that on her last trip to the United States, Mother Teresa was asked while boarding her plane to depart what she thought of Americans. She paused, turned slowly, and after another thoughtful pause said, “They are the loneliest people on the earth.” Yesterday was an incredibly lonely day for many. Between 35 and 40% of adults 18 and over say they spend Valentine’s Day sad and depressed because of loneliness. If I were a wicked person, this verse would cause deep trauma and fear in my spirit. As a follower of Jesus, however, it offers a solution to sadness and loneliness. Not long ago, one of my grandkids broke up with their girlfriend of several years. In talking through it, I mentioned that they might discover comfort and valuable growth as a follower of Christ by “dating” Jesus. By that, I meant having an unobstructed focus on living in intimacy with their Savior. He liked the challenge and was already thinking and behaving that way. Knowing God is always—every moment of every day—present in our journey is amazing. It gives us a spectacular opportunity to live in the supernatural at all times in a way that is not theoretical or merely theological. It is reality. Check out this truth in Psalm 139. You can chat with Him. Ask Him anything. Tell Him a joke and laugh together. You can even cry with Him in your sadness and loneliness. Today, live in the presence of our Creator, Savior, and dearest Friend every moment. #BeTheEdge
