“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.”

Bill was 70. He had been doing youth ministry for over 50 years. He trained me as a young staff member. He was still actively running a large, effective, junior-high–school-wide ministry, with no interest in stopping. At one point, I became the national high school director of the organization. Bill taught for me at our annual training school. When he was teaching, I always saw him in the front row, taking notes. I joked with him once that surely there was nothing being taught that he did not already know and could not teach deeper and better himself. In a totally serious voice, he told me there was always something to learn, and that he loved going deeper with God’s truth and others’ ministry insights. Solomon speaks to this in this verse. God’s wisdom is bottomless. Passages I’ve spent years studying and teaching come alive with fresh insight when I revisit them. It may be partly because of new circumstances in my journey. Perhaps it’s because I connect them with another recent truth from God’s Word. Mostly, it’s because God’s Spirit chooses that moment to bless me with new insight into the truth. What a gift. The only way for that not to happen is to limit my exposure to His truth. That’s a dumb idea. Today, grab His Word and godly teaching and dig. #BeTheEdge

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 NIV
