“Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers.”

I sat at a table yesterday with more than a dozen business leaders. Each was successful and impactful in their own way. They came from a variety of industries, yet each brought a heart that desired to please God and influence a lost and broken world for Him. As the meeting drew to a close, I took a mental inventory of who was there. We had been discussing strategies to impact the city and expand the kingdom of God through their companies. As I was leaving, I mentioned to the gentleman who initially brought the group together that it was perhaps the best group I had ever seen gathered in one place to start a movement in a community. I then said that I would go to war with that group. We smiled and parted ways. Reflecting on the group and the meeting, it occurred to me that as followers of Christ seeking to impact a community—and beyond—we truly are in a battle. C.S. Lewis wrote that every square inch of the universe is owned by either God or Satan, and at any given time a battle is being waged over each one, including the inches occupied by each of us. Throughout history, we have watched Satan and his demons work to defeat any semblance of God and His kingdom in a life, a family, a church, and a community. We all need counselors in our lives who bring guidance that comes directly from Scripture and the heart of God. I saw that around the table, and I work to maintain that kind of counsel in my own life. Whether you are a business leader or a parent, we all need counsel in our journey. Solomon makes that clear.
