“Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all.”
At the very beginning of The Edge Biblical Worldview training, we show a clip for “What About Bob” where Dr. Marvin asking Bob about his marriage. Bob pops up from the floor, looks over the front of the desk at Dr. Marvin, and says, “There are two kinds of people in the world: those who like Neil Diamond and those who don’t.” He then adds, “My ex-wife liked him.” It’s an entertaining scene, but it also presents what we believe is a powerful truth. In this proverb, Solomon first tells us that everyone is made by God, and then he shows two classifications: rich or poor. Scripture makes it clear that there are ultimately just two kinds of people in the world—those who belong to God and are in a relationship with Him, and those who don’t… yet. We say “yet” because it is our prayer and our hope that those who do not have a relationship with God will come to know Him. We know many won’t, but we pray and continue to desire—as God does—that they will. When God looks down from heaven, He doesn’t see rich or poor, heavy or skinny, short or tall, Republican or Democrat, or any of the other distinctions we tend to use to define others. If we truly understand that God made everyone and longs for a relationship with each person, we should do the same. There is no one God has created whom He does not long to be in relationship with. Again, we should feel the same way and operate accordingly. Today, align yourself with the heart of God, see each person as someone of incredible value—as God’s creation—and pray and work for their reconciliation with Him. #BeTheEdge
