“Sluggards do not plow in season; so at harvest time they look but find nothing.”

Richie and the High Street Rockers recorded a song called Get a Job. The Silhouettes also recorded a song titled Get a Job in the 1950s, which later gained popularity in the 1970s as part of the soundtrack for the movie American Graffiti. There was a time—and I believe there still is—when work was considered a privilege. Billy Graham talked about how he believed we will work in heaven. Part of being made in the image of God is that we are designed to work. The DJ on the radio who played the Richie and the High Street Rockers’ song said earlier that day he was driving by a guy on the side of the road panhandling. He yelled out to him, “Get a job.” The panhandler replied, “This is my job.” We realize that not only did God create us to work, but He also has a very specific calling He has equipped and gifted us for. When we are not operating in that calling, we are out of alignment and will often find ourselves unfulfilled or unhappy. When we are operating in alignment with God’s calling, we find deep joy and fulfillment regardless of what we are paid or the challenges we face. Being a mom and housewife can be just as much a calling as being a successful CEO. What we do is not nearly as important as who we do it for and how we do it for Him. Today, serve the Lord in the center of His will. #BeTheEdge
