We’ve all most likely met people who seem to have everything you could possibly want in life and yet seem so dissatisfied. It can be hard at times to understand what is wrong with them. Despite material abundance, they may face internal emptiness due to a lack of genuine relationships, a sense of purposelessness, or a constant, draining need to chase more. And no Jesus. We can understand why someone lacking in any of those areas might find life difficult to celebrate. However, when we see a life that appears to have everything and yet does not love life, it reveals an important truth: the most essential ingredient to joy is found in a relationship with Jesus. He gives meaning beyond anything else in our story. Without Him, everything truly is empty. In fact, the more we have, the more empty we can feel, because the realization grows deeper that nothing can satisfy the hunger within us except the indwelling Holy Spirit.
