“My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.”

The following verses talk about how we are to internalize and hold firmly to God’s truth. This is not just about memorizing Scripture; it is about making it a part of who you are. We see this when the Bible tells us that God’s Word is “living and active.” We see it again when we read that His Word remakes us. God’s Word is not given for information; it is given for transformation. A poor yet somewhat helpful illustration is what happens when we eat a meal. Whatever we eat becomes a part of us—it changes us. In a similar, yet far more powerful and supernatural way, as we “feast” on God’s Word, it works within us to change us too. I am, and always have been, awful at memorization. It made school particularly difficult. Maybe it’s related to my ADD. Over the years, I have found that reading and studying God’s Word has been the best way for me to internalize it. I know what God’s Word says, and Google is excellent at helping me locate the verses that express those truths. Over time, I have memorized many verses mainly through use. Most of these daily Proverb devotions end with verses that I use every chance I can. I try to repeat a few dozen verses that I believe are powerful and need to be quickly recalled when needed. Today, grab His truth. #BeTheEdge
