“Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master.”

There are many descriptions of Jesus. There are literally millions—if not billions—of stories of how Jesus has impacted individual lives on this planet. Refreshing the spirit may be one of the least-used, yet best, descriptions of what Jesus brings into a life. As a desperate, lost soul, I remember the feelings of hopelessness and sadness I lived with prior to meeting Him. There is nothing like the “Wonderful Counselor” to refresh a soul. In this verse, Solomon is talking about faithfully delivering a message on behalf of one’s master. When an employee represents their company well, I have watched many bosses lighten up and proudly brag about that person. They are truly blessed and refreshed by them. When Jesus carried His Father’s message to this planet—in the only way it could possibly be seen clearly and received—without taking too much liberty, I dare say His Father smiled. If nothing else, He certainly was pleased, as He proclaimed, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” We have the opportunity to do the same. This Christmas season, and throughout the year—as many of you already do—let’s faithfully deliver the message of God, His love for His creation, and His desire to be reconciled with a lost and hurting world.
