“Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.”
One of the most successful Christian business owners I know has a firm principle: always assume positive intent. I now have that phrase at the top of my calendar every day. That way, as I skim my daily commitments, I start with it at the forefront of my mind. It helps me walk into meetings or take calls with a positive view of the other person whenever possible. It’s amazing how much that can impact the trajectory of a conversation and an interaction. In this verse, Solomon gives us a similar encouragement. Starting with love for the other person not only assumes the best, it truly wants the best for the people we encounter on our journey. This perspective helps us overlook the insignificant flaws present in all of us as a result of The Fall. That is easy with family. I easily choose to overlook—and at times even enjoy—the shortcomings of those I love. Lifelong friends often get a chuckle out of the very things that would cause great frustration or even anger toward someone I wasn’t fond of. This kind of perspective is not the proverbial rose-colored glasses. It is the God-view His followers are meant to understand because He chooses to love us and easily forgive the very sin in our lives that drove the nails into the hands of His Son. Today, choose love and assume positive intent. #BeTheEdge
