“Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.”
The word trustworthy can also be translated as excellent. The original phrasing is even more vivid—“princely things.” It makes perfect sense that God would need to tell us these things. He isn’t offering common, everyday thoughts—though He certainly speaks to those as well. The wisdom and truth He brings are fit for kings and princesses. That’s a powerful thought. As His followers, we aren’t just like everyone else. We’re not simply “one of the guys” or “one of the gals.” We are sons and daughters of a King—the King. What an astounding privilege. We may rarely carry ourselves that way, in part because it’s hard to imagine. But that’s how God sees us, how He treats us, and—as this verse reminds us—how He speaks to us. Knowing that God’s Word is fit for royalty should inspire us to pursue it deeply and regularly. Not all earthly kings are worth listening to. Not everything spoken by any ruler throughout history has been wise or profound. But the King of Kings—the Most High God of the universe—speaks truth that is anything but simple. His words carry depth only the Creator could offer. They are also infused with power; He tells us they are living and active. Today, recognize the source and the strength of His words—and dive in. #BeTheEdge
