“For the upright will live in the land, and the blameless will remain in it.”
The land—or home country—was a big deal to the Israelites. God promised it to Abraham and ultimately delivered it to the nation. They fought over it and worked to reflect their heavenly Father’s gift through it. They didn’t do that very well much of the time. The word land appears multiple times in Scripture. Its exact meaning is determined by its use in each instance. Here it refers specifically to their country—to their kingdom. Now we, too, live to reflect our King in His Kingdom. Theirs was a physical land, while ours is spiritual. There can be a tendency to believe the United States was established as a nation to also reflect God and His Kingdom. Perhaps—and I believe rightly—that was a key part of the founding of this country. It was based on an understanding of the Judeo-Christian ethic in law and education. Today we see those things both challenged and ignored by many. Our call is to reflect God in our lives. We live with the understanding Solomon shares, emphasizing that a faithful life leads to security and heritage in the place God provides. Today, live as faithful citizens of God’s Kingdom. #BeTheEdge
