“Their malice may be concealed by deception, but their wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.”
I was just in a conversation with a friend who is helping a struggling teenager. In the middle of that situation is a former foster parent who seems determined to make everyone’s life as difficult as possible. He is living out this passage from Solomon. He uses a lot of cleverly crafted texts to sound supportive and even spiritual while working to manipulate and coerce my friend. Malice and deception are two things the follower of God never wants to be guilty of. The word in Hebrew that is translated malice is the word ra. It means evil or wickedness. As Christ-followers, we should live our lives as an open book—God’s Word, to be exact. The statement has been made that you may be the only Bible someone ever reads. There is a lot of truth to that—at times, a very burdensome truth. Knowing that before a person ever encounters the Savior, they may encounter us as His representative should affect every moment of our waking hours. The fact that the evil and their deception will be revealed is deeply entrenched in Scripture. You reap what you sow is the biblical outcome of what Solomon is referring to. It is amazing how people continue to live deceptive and malicious lives, thinking they will get away with it. The examples throughout history of those who thought they had escaped consequences—only to be exposed—are unending. Today I saw a story about a coach who was leading an undefeated team toward a championship and then suddenly disappeared. As the story came out, it turns out he was found with child pornography and an arrest was imminent. Darkness will be revealed in the light. Today, walk in the light. #BeTheEdge
