“The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.”
Integrity has always been a key part of what it means to be a Biblical Worldview leader. Without it, a person is missing the critical element that engenders trust. The opposite of integrity is dishonesty, corruption, and deceit. The word used for integrity in this passage in the original Hebrew is Yosher. This word means “uprightness, straightness, or to be in tune with what is right.” I love the image of being in tune with what is right—it calls to mind tuning a radio to get a clear signal on a particular station. That doesn’t just happen automatically, and it can be even more difficult with the conflicting messages in today’s society. We must have the clear voice of the indwelling Holy Spirit and a healthy knowledge of God’s Word. Those two things will guide our lives as a filter to keep us operating not only with integrity but also with God’s approval. The other word Old Testament writers used for integrity was Tom. This word is the most direct translation of integrity and implies wholeness, completeness, and innocence. It refers to being undivided or unbroken—both morally and spiritually. I love dealing with men and women who operate this way. It’s easy to recognize them as you engage with them. You’ll notice they seldom say things like “to be honest,” “to tell the truth,” or other phrases that suggest there’s another option. They are the ones Jesus talks about—those whose yes means yes and no means no. Today, stay in tune. #BeTheEdge
