“Wisdom’s instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility comes before honor.”
This is not my favorite verse in chapter 15. The challenge for me today is that there are so many great verses in this chapter. As I read through looking for a prompting about one in particular, I was prompted by them all. However, since I only use one verse a day, I decided to go with the last one to wrap it all up. Humility is such a key to the Christian life. The greatest example was Jesus, who humbled Himself—Scripture tells us—even to the point of death on the cross. He didn’t have to die on the cross, but He chose to, in all of its disgraceful humiliation. It was the lowest form of capital punishment and the most painful in Jesus’ time. He went willingly to the cross. He was spat upon, beaten, and falsely accused, and yet through it all, He kept His mouth closed and took it. What a profound example for us as His followers. I’ve listened for the past two days as people claimed how mistreated they were because the football team they pull for has had some really bad calls go against them. I actually agree. But how meaningless that is. I’ve also watched as football coaches—who are brothers in Christ—sit near some of the same people who are very harsh in their evaluation of them. There are so many examples of believers who choose haughtiness and arrogance over humility. Today, be an example of one who is as humble as Jesus was. #BeTheEdge
