“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

Can you imagine if we truly lived by that reality? Every word of God is flawless. Not just important, valuable, trustworthy, or any other positive description—it is flawless. That’s a concept that can be difficult to grasp in our fallen world. Mm There are things I’ve called flawless or flawlessly executed, but in reality, they most likely were not. I’ve called my wife flawless, and in my eyes she was—well, most of the time. Because we have so little interaction with anything truly flawless in our daily lives, it’s possible that we sometimes cheapen the concept. When the writer refers to God’s word as flawless, it begs us to pause and really consider what that means, and how it should impact us. Scripture writers and Jesus himself referred to God and his nature as flawless. The reason heaven is unattainable for anyone without the sacrifice of Jesus is because having a flawless God means he cannot allow any sin into heaven—it would destroy its flawless nature. That’s why Jesus, as the flawless sacrifice, could pay the price, cover our sin, and make a way for us to enter the flawless presence of heaven. One day those of us who are his children will move into eternity with him. The things we look to for flawlessness—whether physical appearance or some social media definition—fall so far short of what God means. It is said that we will see nail-scarred hands on Jesus when we go to heaven, which by most human definitions may not seem flawless. Yet his flawless nature and sacrifice are what give us eternity.
