“These are more proverbs of Solomon, compiled by the men of Hezekiah king of Judah.”
When I’m gone, I’m pretty sure my grandkids will catch themselves saying a few things that might not make much sense to those who hear them. When they toss something at the trash can and miss, they’ll shout with confidence, “Nailed it!” When their child or grandchild asks for something they’re willing to give, they may say, “I…” and let the word hang—until someone else finishes it with, “…don’t see why not.” And when someone tries to drag them into an argument that doesn’t really matter (which is most of them), they might say, “Ain’t got a dog,” indicating they don’t have a dog in that fight—or more accurately, they don’t plan to take sides in a dispute that doesn’t concern them. There are dozens more all of which I say regularly with them. Most importantly, I hope they’ll quickly recall my life motto: “Love Jesus. Be kind.” A reflection of Jesus’ two greatest commandments. Another one they might remember is: “Love God, hate sin.”In this chapter of Proverbs the men of King Hezekiah were determined to preserve the sayings of the wisest man who ever lived—except, of course, for the God-Man, Jesus. So, who will memorialize your most prolific sayings? And will they be rooted in eternal truth? Today, speak the wisdom of God. #BeTheEdge
