“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;”

It took 13 years and 70 to 80 thousand workers and craftsmen to build the Temple and Solomon’s house. He understood construction. By contrast, the average home was built mostly of stone and a stucco-type material. For the poor—the vast majority of the people—their homes consisted of one large room and a smaller one in the back for the animals. I had my house built about 16 years ago. It was quite a process. I didn’t hate it though. I enjoyed thinking through designs and functions. I did not enjoy figuring out colors and fixtures. Thankfully, the process involved family with wisdom and patience. Solomon uses this process to draw a picture of raising and mentoring a family. I realized a few days ago that my two oldest grandchildren will, in two generations, be looked to for shepherding their younger cousins and their families. With eight grandchildren who will most likely have spouses and children, it could be a crowd of 30 or 40. Of course, this may not be nearly as structured as I picture, but I am intentionally working to establish a foundation of faith in God to guide and build their futures on. A stable life and family are built on wisdom and understanding, firmly rooted in love for God and each other. I will pour the basics of God’s truth into them as long as I’m here—hopefully mixed with some fun and adventure. Today, build well. #BeTheEdge
